**********UPDATE: FAST FOR THE PHILIPPINES*************
Blog Posted:11/15/2013 2:02:00 PM
Thanks to all for your comments!
So, first I realized that I needed to make the donation part of this process as easy as possible for all involved, so I chose to simplify the process by collecting only the NAMES of those who pledge to donate funds for the Philippines.
I chose three reputable agencies: The Mennonite Relief Committee, Unicef and the Red Cross. I will be dropping off posters and a sponsor sheets to several businesses on Monday, I hope.
The local paper, the New Hamburg Independent, has interviewed me and an article will appear in Wednesday's paper. They were very supportive and encouraging.
Here is my poster and what I'm trying to do
FOR THE PHILIPPINES
I will be fasting from
Fri, Nov 22, Midnight?? - Sun, Nov 24, Noon
I'm ONLY collecting pledge NAMES for emergency relief. YOUR ACTUAL donation can either be given directly at
The New Hamburg Mennonite Thrift Store, on-line at:
or, if able, at your place of worship.
Please sign my sponsor sheet and then make the donation... even a $1 pledge. I will trust that you will gift that pledge amount to whatever agency you choose.
THANK YOU FOR LENDING YOUR SUPPORT!
Typhoon Haiyan has basically destroyed an entire region--- they are hungry and homeless. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! I am hoping that others will join me in this fast, a show of solidarity for the peoples of the Philippines.
THEY NEED OUR HELP. LET?S SHOW WE CARE!
Please email me at email@example.com if you would like more information or would like to participate in any way.
SO, SOUPERS, please, if you are able to donate anything to the cause, please let me know and I?ll sign you up on my sponsor sheet. If you have already donated, would you be able to donate even ONE dollar more <3?
Or maybe you could join me on my fast, as long as you are healthy and able! It is a 36 HOUR fast which starts Next Friday, Nov 22, Midnight and runs until the Sunday, Nov 23 at Noon.
I'm hoping someone in my town, one I only recently moved to, joins me and we will be able to 'break fast' together. Please, keep the Philippines in your thoughts and/or prayers in the coming days as supplies begin to filter to them. May food and water reach them quickly.
I will keep you updated on my process. As I mentioned in my previous blog, I've never even attempted something like this before. All I know is that I HAVE to do SOMETHING.
Love sent to all
