Cyndi MacMillan is a well-rounded writer who embraces many genres and forms. Her work has been published in local newspapers and has won contests. She enjoys reading literary journals, and she is actively pursuing publication within their glossy covers.

Verse is both magnetic and kinetic. She attempts - madly- to give equal attention to her poetry, short stories, and a novel-in-progress, the Trim of Wicks.  Regardless of genre, she focuses on language. One word has the power to repel or pull. She never forgets the reader and does her best to make their ride interesting.

Poetry soup is a good forum which enables people from around the world to share poetry. It has some great resources and provides a nice space for friends to meet.

Cyndi lives in a small town in Ontario with her husband, young daughter and far too many books.

Jurassic Park: The Sestina??? WHY THE HECK NOT? LOL!

Andrea

Please tell me one of your favourite movies from the past 25 years ... and I will write you a sestina based on the plot, characters and twists in the movie and do my utmost to prove that a sestina can be AS suspenseful and interesting as a movie, especially a contemporary sestina.

We will need to come up with a movie that I have seen... lol... I have barely seen a movie in 5 years. I would prefer something either suspenseful or action based... something you LOVED, something maybe a bit sexy, a bit gritty, moody or intense.

Maybe... hmm... Sixth Sense... for example or Mr. and Mrs. Smith...

One movie I saw recently that was a horror movie that left me sick to my stomach. I saw Stephen King’s the Mist... oh gee... the ending.... I nearly upchucked... so awful....

So, Madam, I invite you to give me some suggestions.

It may take a week to finish the beast.

I will turn this into a blog on the process of writing a sestina, how I edited it, why I did what I did, devices I chose and their purpose...

At the end of it... you can tell me, honestly, if you enjoyed the sestina or it was a snoozer!

C’mon, toots, hit me with your best shot.

LOVE YA
CYNDI

hahaha, what a GREAT challenge. Did you ever see American Beauty? It was best movie of the year over a decade ago? Hey, what about Avatar? or mel Gibson's Apocolyse? And for Stephen King, what about The Shining? Is the MIst the one where the animals are running around like crazy? You are so funny, cyndi. I will come up with others if you don't like any of these thrilling shows!!

I was actually ENJOYING the mist... the fear, the bible-thumper gone off her rocker, the family in plight... but then the main character (spoiler) went and offed his own YOUNG SON and I sat on the couch shaking for an hour after. So, no more horror movies for mommy. LOL. I am a wimp.

YUP! The Shining it is. PERFECT. Gritty, dark, moody... classic, too. I did not see Avatar, Apocolypse or American Beauty. LOL. I am so behind in the times! I look forward to hitting that King Classic HARD. I've already picked the six words and I'm determined to knock it out of the park. xox Cyndi
