I have been a member of Poetry soup since 2011.

Though my forte is fiction, verse has always appealed to me. There is nothing like a play of words to rattle the ordinary, to tickle away the dust of stagnation. My favourite form is the contemporary sonnet, but I also enjoy free verse. Also, I love the zen experience of haiku, its seizure of a moment, how it can hold a universe in so few syllables. And I admit to a fondness for the Rondeau.

My life is simple, but busy. I’m a writer and stay at home mother. Days are full.

Currently, I am working on a novel or ... ha ha... should I really say that the novel is working on me? Characters! They have a way of turning a world upside down.

There are some amazing poets on the soup. I am blessed to call many my friends ~~ Cyndi

SOME OF THE PEOPLE ON SOUP. WHO I THINK YOU ARE. TAKE A PEEK!

Blog Posted:4/29/2013 8:14:00 PM

I used to watch a lot of television, too much television, but I now have four shows that I either watch or record. My hubby and I watch these shows on the weekend.

I don’t like most of today’s television shows. They lack the characterization which I've enjoyed from past decades.

I was thinking how some of my chums on Soup remind me of some of my favourite characters from some classic TV shows. And I don’t mean actor doubles, I mean that I see some similar traits... all of them strengths!

This is all meant as fun, but if somebody should feel offended, I’ll take down this blog lickety split!

Carrie – Mary Tyler Moore – no explanation needed.

Debbie – Mrs. Sherwood, FAME, caring, focused, committed, layered, a good teacher, will go to the mats for you.

Chris-  Chris from northern exposure, sage, poet, philosopher. (Chris, I know that you watch NO television whatsoever... here’s a link if you’re curious http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHGkmp3wzNI  or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6QjdgMxTCg

Nette- Counselor Troi, star trek, next generation , intuitive, caring, passionate. Sympathetic, good listener, old soul.

Ruben – Wilson from Home Improvement- forthcoming but always mysterious. Cool!

PD –  bat girl, a bit mischievous, can’t-keep-a-good-girl-down vibe, fun, kick arse gal!

Andrea – Bailey WKRP in Cincinnati – friendly, but just a bit shy, wry but never rude.

Craig – Barney Miller –Gentleman, except when its time to roll up the sleeves. Good sense of humour!

Tracie Indigo Dreamweaver – Abby, NCIS – A touch goth, a tad sad, sweet, witty.

Mandy Tams – Carol Burnett – funny, real, layered, caring, very natural.

David Williams
– Sheriff  James Brock, Picket Fences. Honest, curious, driven, kind.

Catie Lindsay – Captain Colleen McMurchy from China Beach, caring, dedicated, direct, scarred but strong.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBHnBm1iZZo

Enn Pee – Veronica Mars, detective extraordinaire, MacGyver-ish, yup. cool. No. UBER cool.

Mystic Rose-Carolyn Ingalls, Little House on the Prairie. Devoted, patient, has depth.

If you’re on the list, how would you characterize yourself?

If you see someone on the list you know and like, how close was I?

If you aren’t on the list... share who you relate to...

I had fun! Man, I need some fun.... lots going on....

Hugs and love to every character on Soup.

Oh, yeah, PS

My husband says that I am Alli McBeal as I do have a WILD imagination.

I think I’m more like Helen Hunt in Mad about You...

Oh, ps, the shows I watch? Castle, NCIS, Bones. Occasionally, I watch Grey's Anatomy, but I find many of the characters self-absorbed...

Yes, I am up, dancing, loving and free. But Cyndi, those scars have healed over, with barely a sign of injury... :) I am very much like the picture you use in your blog, as a matter of fact, it is one of my most favorite things to do, to open my arms to the universe, and say, come on in. love and hugs, Catie :)

HEHEHE--You're the best Cynthia!! But you!!! Hmmmm as the Gmeister would say---I would say, with your perpetually working brain are like Data from Star Trek----your husband must be elated you have alternatives for entertainment. I think I'm speaking for others when I say I'm glad we're included in that alternative and I'm personally honored to be among your characterizations---really honored!!

ali Beal was too neurotic. I think you would be right to characterize yourself as Helen Hunt. This was an awesome blog. I sure enjoyed seeing the person you gave me even though I never watched that show to really know about her! Nikko's really fits her!!! I loved seeing them all and gosh, I wish I could do pics like you do here and put up this kind of blog!!

I loved these comparisons........wow.. especially Chris compared to "Chris " on Northern Exposure...that is how I picture him too.......so cool !! So many I think you nailed perfectly! I always think "Mary" was pretty darn perky , which I am in a lot of ways, I guess, but there's a tad of Rhoda's sarcasim that my hubby knows pretty well......lol !!!

Very cool, Cyndi! I think you are spot on with these! (Ruben as Wilson haha) I don't watch too much TV, but I do love The Good Wife and Downton Abbey.

Oh, this does seem fun, Cyndi! Enjoyed how you related some of us to TV characters... Imagine my surprise to be included here, why thank you-- although admittedly I have Never seen an episode of Veronica Mars (I'm familiar with the actress though)-- but ooh yeah, MacGyver I know (the theme song playing in my head now)-- I had (&have) intermittent TV viewing (more so even now) and believe it or not, all the TV shows here that you listed even if they sound familiar, I don't think I watched, except for a bit of Home Improvement & Northern Exposure- the latter I watched that when I was 11, 10? I don't think we got all the episodes back then but I recall enjoying that show for some reason... now I want to watch it again! I haven't seen that wonderful show in ages, made me suddenly miss it...Oh, Mad About You was fun, and Murphy Brown...

Impressive blog.. )I love every character you crafted here and the decent comic champaign you pop on them... I still like to say naught much and wait and hope to take more peek. Perhaps by then, this will have been more lively...

I don't watch TV (lately). From your list, I only remember Fame, Batman, and Little House on the Prairie. Curiously, I always "see" Gert W. Knop (he is not posting lately) as the music teacher in Fame (let me google it...Professor Shorofsky).

Loved that professor... tender in all the sterness... perfection stressed, but kindly, and always accepting of the growing pains of artistry. Will have to check out knop! Thanks!

Ruben, click on the links under Chris... can you hear the Chris, there? I was thinking of trying to put a link under each name, but OYE, it's 11 pm... and I'm kooky, but not THAT kooky. :D

OMG! I was going to say Grissom, but thought you'd swat me on the back of the head, as he's so mysterious that he seems anti social, which I DO NOT see you as. But a bug guy? Hmmm...lol... maybe!
