First I was me,

Selfish as can be,

Wanting everything from A to Z

And wanting it all for me.

Then I became we,

A part of an us.

I learned to share, give and take

I learned how to trust.

Next I was you,

Believe me it's true.

I would rather give than receive,

It was you I wanted to please.

Now I am them,

A family man.

Giving my children,

All that I can.

If you look real close,

It is easy to see,

I am older and wiser,

And no longer a me.

The Curse of a Would-Be Poet

Blog Posted:4/10/2013 4:51:00 PM
This is my curse.  I think in rhymes all of the time.  I can't help it!!!  Some new poem is always playing out in my head whenever I am left alone with my thoughts.  Because I work out of my home - all alone - I suffer from human deprivation most of my days and am left alone with my thoughts far too often.

Today, while taking a break from doing some work on the PC to chase a fly around the kitchen with a fly swatter, the following poem formed in my head.  As soon as I deposited the unfortunately slow fly in the trash can, I sat down and typed it out.

Help me!!!!!!!!!

If Troubles Were Flies

If troubles always took the form of flies

Then prayer would be the swatter

If the desert sand was a compilation of lies

Then truth would be the water

If mistakes we made formed dark clouds in the sky

Then forgiveness the sunshine would bring

If bigotry and fear could pass us by

Then in harmony all humans could sing

I hear ya Joe!...Great poem too!...Same here, I think in rhyme all the time...Occasionally I have been known to even TALK in rhyme (which most find rather irritating) - Tim

There might be a poem/song lyric in there somewhere Suzette. I might need to think on that one.

Just always have a pencil close by. The best ideas come at these isolated times. Keep on thinking. Love, Joyce
