I WAS ME

First I was me,

Selfish as can be,

Wanting everything from A to Z

And wanting it all for me.

Then I became we,

A part of an us.

I learned to share, give and take

I learned how to trust.

Next I was you,

Believe me it's true.

I would rather give than receive,

It was you I wanted to please.

Now I am them,

A family man.

Giving my children,

All that I can.

If you look real close,

It is easy to see,

I am older and wiser,

And no longer a me.

Joe, I read what else you said below my comment and it's so true. Many have lost children this year. this poem is a heartfelt tribute for them all.

I wrote this poem because I realize that there are many parents that lost a child throughout the year and I just want them to know that even though their child may have died in less newsworthy circumstances, their loss is no less tragic and we pray for them as well.

I only have a moment, but wanted to say that I am where you are at, Joe! Writing is a balm, let it go, let it out. My hubby has asked me to stop watching the news so I will stop crying. I am not sure it will make a difference. This tragedy came in the wake of several local/national homicides involving very young children. I was already feeling frightened and very wrought. Now? Love sent. Cyndi

Sorry for yet another poem on this topic. Sometimes I have a hard time letting go of things. This will be my last post on the topic ... I promise.
