First I was me,

Selfish as can be,

Wanting everything from A to Z

And wanting it all for me.

Then I became we,

A part of an us.

I learned to share, give and take

I learned how to trust.

Next I was you,

Believe me it's true.

I would rather give than receive,

It was you I wanted to please.

Now I am them,

A family man.

Giving my children,

All that I can.

If you look real close,

It is easy to see,

I am older and wiser,

And no longer a me.

The "I Can't Win Contest"

Blog Posted:7/2/2012 3:40:00 PM
Sorry for how long it took me to finalize this contest - but you all made it very difficult by entering a whole bunch of terrific poems.

I said I was going to limit this contest to 3 winners.  Gold, Silver, Bronze.

Based on past experience in judging these contests I thought this would be easy.

In past contests, there were so many entries that did not fit the theme ... not in this case.

In past contests, there were so many entries that absolutely confused me, I had no idea what I was reading ... not in this case.

In past contests, there were so many errors, mistakes and rotten grammar ... not in this case.

So, by limiting myself to 3 winners, I really had to spend a lot of time reading and re-reading.  Slowly eliminating one poem here and one poem there.  Coming back and re-reading again.

There were really many poem deserving of mention, but, in the spirit of the upcoming Olympics (with a handfull of HMs) I got to three winners.

These may not have been your 3 winners had you judged them, but, based on my biases and my preferences, my winners are now, finally, posted.

Thanks to all of you who entered.  I hope YOU love the poem you submitted and, therefore, consider the effort to write for and enter this contest, worth your time and effort.

Congratulations for your winners. How you can narrow down to even 11, including the HM's, is beyond my comprehension, Joe!!

Thank you for my no. 3, Joe. This was a fun contest and a true incident when I was a small child. My mom was very wise. Love, Joyce
