Never would I have thought I would start
writing at 73 years of age. I have thoroughly enjoyed my voyage into the written spirituality of poetry and am thankful for the opportunity.  In my four years here I have met many new and wonderful persons. Having them accept me as a friend has been a moving experience.

Poetry Soup Imbeded Ads

Blog Posted:11/4/2013 7:31:00 PM
I'm probably the cow's tail on this but - - - -!  How long has the soup been highlighting a word in your poems, so that when clicked it takes you to an advertisement.  The ad really may or may not have anything to do with the word, which is beside the point, but was an observation.

1.  How long has this been going on? (Don't have time to search the past blogs.)

2.  Has this been publicized in the blogs?

3.  Is this OK with the majority of you poets?

4.  If this is new, I feel like we should voice our feelings.  I mean, it's enough to just concentrate on the beauty and meaning of the poem, much less getting sidetracked by the bold print on one particular word.

5.  I have never had a quarrel with ads on the pages, so long as they do not overwhelm the poetry.  I am disgusted that the soup denigrated my poem without so much as asking my permission. If they had asked I would have refused permission and I will try to find another website to use.   Websites from godaddy and places like that are not expensive and one page can bring in much more ad revenue than the page costs.  This is not the same soup that I paid to have a lifetime membership and I feel they owe me my money back.  I do hope they are monitoring these blogs a little closer.  If I don't see some feed back very quickly from them, I will send them a copy of this blog.  I have been semi-away from the soup for a couple of months now.
Please respond to this blog and let me know if I am out of whack with reality.  Probably am but can't change at this late date.

I was going to comment and I noticed I am blocked. I am not aware of any conflict between us. Please soup mail me, if I have offended you in some way I would like to make amends. Sincerely Rick

I noticed it a lot a while back but then recently not at all. I guess it comes and goes in spurts and to only some people at a time!!

Thanks Peeps, I am supposed to have quality security software and have never had to add separate adware and malware. However, will look into strenghthening somehow. PD had answered my question within about 10 minutes after I put it on and I'm actually in the process of loading my whole computer after I had to have the drive wiped. Thanks for all the good comments.

Hi Charles: A while back I had this problem of inline ads embedded. Not on Poetry Soup as i had it fixed before I joined here. It turns out I had adware on my own computer. If you see any words that are blue and underlined that want you to link elsewhere the adware is on your own computer. You can go here for support. I downloaded Superantispyware and Malwarebytes both have Free additions. SuZ

Hi again Charles, I suggest getting a more powerful protection--it's worth it--I use Avast--it's relatively expensive but very effective. I don't have much of a problem with the ads because they do provide income which allows those without means to join this site although they can admittedly be annoying, advertising like all else $$$, provides us with opportunities we would not otherwise be able to enjoy at all. But again, make sure to check your firewall--it's worth it my friend.

We do not highlight words in poems for imbedded ads. Please check your computer for spyware.

Hi Charles, I don't notice it happening the way you describe but what I do notice is that an add can block out the right side of a contest description on occasion.

Hello, Charles; it's nice to see you! I totally agree with you: it's unbearable! I try to ignore the ads; I don't read them; I don't even look at them ... but they're there ... : D Lately, I log in from my phone ... and every time I do it, I have to type my username and my password having an ad blocking my view: the ad pops up and I can't see what Im typing. Usually, I make a mistake (my fingers and the tiny keyboard don't get along) and I have to do it again and again ... Sometimes, I don't want to login. Does the people who pay to post these ads really think that we're going to "think" of them?? Well, if that's what they think: they're wrong!
