It is one of my favorite pass times, along with riding horses, rock hunting(I'm a total rock hound-rocks dominate pretty much my whole house), reading anything I can get my hands on, riding 4-wheelers, and just generally spending time with my husband, Steven! I also really love my job-I'm a land surveyor in New Mexico, working on getting my license.

A Cowboy Is...

Well I finally made it back to get a contest together! I want to get your opinions on cowboys! Anything from the romantic "Marlboro Man" to John Wayne, and anything in between! I don't care what form or how long it is as long as it's about cowboys! Here is a poem that I have always liked by my favorite Cowboy Poet, Baxter Black! It's What I Do A cowman is the way he is, Because he works with stock; He’s found it’s best to ease along, To find a rhythm in their song, And not to fret if days are long; Cause Cows Don’t punch a clock;
That separates him from the folks That keep a job in town; That stack the boxes all in rows, And bolt the knobs on radios, But when the evening whistle blows, They lay the hammer down;
A job ain’t until it’s done, That’s life down on the farm; To gather those that tend to stray, To treat the sick on Christmas Day, And if she needs your help to stay, Until she’s safe from harm;
You see you can’t just quit a cow, Sometimes your all she’s got; No 911 to hear her call, No reinforcements in the hall, Just you, nobody else, that’s all; To get her through a spot;
His calling is as old as time, It is, will be, and was; Through blizzards, bogs, and barbed wire fence, He stands against the pestilence; And though he feigns indifference; He’s proud of what he does;
It’s done without a second thought, By those who tend the flock; It’s what I do you’ll hear him say, With no demand for higher pay, And I believe we are that way; Because we work with stock. Let Me Know what you think!!! I missed you all very much in my time away from the soup!
