Please read the story below from a artist I have become friends with... It gave me such a good feeling I needed to share with the very people who have inspired me...
First ever artistic collaboration between me and my bro Michael. This is a special piece for me because of how it came about. The last artwork I completed was the portrait of my Nephew Inmemoryof Danny Harrison back in August. I love that p ...ortrait because it brought me closer to Danny through my art. The thing is I had no more motivation or inspiration to draw anymore after Danny's portrait. I really think somehow the next drawing would break or weaken that connection. What I'm trying to say is I wanted that connection to be forever and thus that would be my last portrait. My bro Mike saw a post I put up about having lost my inspiration and being a great artist (Poet) himself & a great friend Mike was saddened about this. He said he would be happy to write a poem that maybe I could somehow draw some inspiration from and maybe put an image to it. I think Mike knew more about why I was blocked from drawing than he led on for the poem he sent me put everything into a new light. What I got from the poem was amazing! This is the line that did it for me, "Wondered if it was you crying across your world to mine…" That was it, the rest fell in place and was all uplifting. Sad but wonderfully happy. So here is my first drawing in over 6 months. All the words are Michaels. Snippets of his poem 'In My Song' cut out and pasted on the drawing which is my trademark. One thing I really wanted to do was to make the teardrop human. Like the soul of a departed loved one was that tear. Another thing was to make the subject's crying a new found happy cry, thus the smile. Michael's words again 'Morning came and the rain had stopped, did it mean there was a smile'. A simple portrait (with not so simple deep words) that was hard coming and may never had been seen pencil meet paper had it not been for Mike! Thanks bro!
