Hello Friends of the Soup.   I am constantly learning from all of you, and writing is something I love, but never made time for until now. I have always been a California girl, born and raised in the southern part of the state, now living in upper Northern California. Surrounded by mountains, and beautiful scenery, I have great inspiration.   I think I have always loved to create, it comes from my Dad, and his dad, I suppose. Although my mother was the rock of the family, my Dad was the dreamer, and a cowboy at heart. I grew up with horses that he raised, and memories of him singing around a campfire on trips we took. He wrote poetry, and his own songs, and played guitar.  His father did the same thing when my dad was a boy.  My grandfather was a trail guide, in the early l900's in Yosemite Nat'l Park, where my dad lived as a child.  My purpose in life has been family. I am married to my High School sweetheart,  we went to college together, I taught school for awhile, then raised two fine sons (both H.S. teachers) and a beautiful daughter.  Have 5 grandchildren who we adore, and fortunately they all live fairly close by.  I've had a small catering business, but now we are both retired, live in the country on a couple of acres, with rangeland behind us.  We are down to one dog, after a mix of this and that!  No horses, although horses, cattle, coyotes, and all kinds of wildlife live behind our place. Our kids are gifted musicians, and one son writes poetry that blows me away, some which has been published. I love poetry and piano, all music, movies, camping, our little cabin in the mountains, but especially my family.  And I love Poetry Soup..and all the wonderful company here!

Remembering Stanley....:)

In Billy the Kidster's  Blog below, he shared a website memorial for those who have lost a beloved pet, inspired me to share our little ceremony we had in honor of my daughter's beloved Chocolate Lab recently.  Over the Labor Day weekend, we took the ashes of "Stanley" ...a sweet, old guy, who died this summer.  We (our whole family) gathered near our cabin, scattered his ashes  at  his favorite place in the whole world....the lake area where he loved to swim and fetch sticks, and chase the geese.  Goodbye Stanley...happy swimming ....I know you are still chasing those heavenly geese!!

I still fill up when I think of Murphy, my son's chihuahua. I loved that dog. God Bless. Hopefully there is a heaven for Stanley and Murph and all the other pets who were so loved on earth. Vince

It is nice that your whole family gathered to give Stanley a wonderful send off. It is so hard to loose a pet, they become so much a member of the family. :) Catie

Carrie, this is so sad, I have tears, how these pets entwine within our hearts and souls as you know I just lost my beloved Kitty, and I just cannot get over it, I am in mourning the same as I would for any person, forever will your pet have a place in your heart and forever will mine, we share this pain, Carrie, there is not greater pain, than losing a pet, it is that unconditional love thing.. love Constance

Yep...that is Stanley out in the water, along with my granson playing in the mud. Stanley was so gentle with all the kids...even though he was big old guy, but had a playful spirit till the end. Loved the water! :)

It's really hard saying goodbye to a pet. I'm glad you had family around you when you said your final farewell to Stanley. It sounds like a nice sendoff that brought the family together. Love, Carolyn

Wot a nice tribute to Stanley. Chocolate Labs are generally pretty cool dogs, even though some have weird personalities, which suits me fine! :D~Pets can be such a healthy part of the overall family unit for sure~Chris
