WHO IS THE POET? - No 2

Blog Posted:3/15/2013 6:31:00 AM

Hallo Soupers!

It is weekend again and it looks like rain here in Cape Town. The centipedes have been climbing up the wall and have come to rest midway to the ceiling. This is a sure sign of rain. Thank goodness that they did not climb to the top, or we would have to brace ourselves for a storm!

The above is an old wives tale which happens to be remarkably true. Similar to: It never rains on full moon, unless it is a harvest moon....

Today is 15 March/March 15 (depending where you live), known in antiquity as the Ides of March. Julius Caesar should have listened...

The fun challenge for this weekend is to write a poem expressing an urban legend or a superstition which we can laugh off as being exactly that. Eg Your "lucky" piece of clothing you wear when playing golf, etc

Please submit a *PREVIOUSLY UNPUBLISHED poem (one per participant) in any genre, but no more than 15 lines long (IT MAY BE LESS) to me at the soup mail and I will collate and post the poems, together with an alphabetic list of the participants.

*UNPUBLISHED POEM: It has not been posted here on PoetrySoup. Please hold off posting your poem till Monday, when the results will be made known.

I will post the poems (sans the author's name) & the separate list of participants, on Sunday noon (12 noon GMT) and you will be invited to Guess Who The Poets are

Have fun and enjoy your weekend

Love

Su

I was reading famous urban legends to get inspired ... and I can't find a way to write a poem without doing the obvious (re-telling the same tale). I hope to find something before Sunday noon. : (

Then write the legend from the voice OF the legend, chum, either with humour or with discordance ... think.... lol.... SHREK ;)

Well, Ruben, You can write a FOUND poem. That is a poem where you take a piece of writing and verbatim transcribe it, using poetry techniques to style it in stanzas, line breaks, etc; with little or no alteration. You might make it rhyme (your input) or you may use Free Verse to arrange the words into a pleasing poetry form... Just a suggestion :-)

I can't read your blog. The ends of the sentences are cut off by the ad on the side. I don't know what you want. Joyce

Hallo Joyce, I have posted the gist of the information in the comment thread here. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Love, Su

I would have probably joined in this experiment, especially since I am practicing exercises of brevity, but the challenge/theme threw me off. I am going to at least try to guess some of the authors though. An intriguing venture, Su. If you happen to try this again with a different challenge, I'll give it a shot(unless of course the next challenge throws me off too lol).

Oh, maybe I came across wrongly? I don't think there's anything wrong with your theme. I am in this mood(which is one of the main reason why I don't enter contests anymore)with my writing, were if there is an outside suggestion of theme that conflicts with wot I truly want to write about, then it doesn't work. It isn't you, it is me(lol). I am literally writing only exactly(100%)wot I want to be writing about....not an iota of deviation from my desired topic. I don't want to sway with my own possible themes. If an outside theme corresponds with wot I want to write about, then perfect.

:D Light hearted, fun... hmmm... lighters? ROFL! Hi Chris. Bye Chris. Pandemonium in the home, gotta fly. I am beginning to think that I need to get those caffeine shots to keep up with my girl. Holy cow, where do they store that energy?:)

Thank you for your feedback, Chris. Maybe you would like to suggest a "theme". I am trying to keep it light hearted and fun. :-)

Your muse is on its way, Ruben O., as requested.... or is that supposed to be the genie? .... ;-)

This sounds fun. If I am up for it, I will try but just don't know, Suz. See ya!!
