Dictionarys? goodness, there's SPELL CHECK! and write in a word processing program and put the spell check on AUTO_CORRECT. Life is full of critics and if the worse criticism a child gets is a spelling correction ..well...enough said. At least this supposed horrid, mean, cruel, old goat or goatess did not speak to the 'child' with a foul mouth, or threaten the child with violence, or say the child had a worthless life? Let's compare verbal abbuse with a spelling correction? hmm

If my teen ever needed help...id send him to you or..Cyndi...but...id highly recommend Andrea...she's a fun loving peach. I' don't think highly of you for other reason... but I know you would never tell a young poet his work is trash, and he should come back when he can spell....ditto ditto to the poet who hurt my young poet friend writing spirit...

Hi Frank good blog. I am not that good at spelling some words so if I see a spelling mistake and it does not really effect the poem then fine by me but if it throws the flow of the poem completely I will very politely point it out and hope the poet does not get offended, if anyone would rather I didn't do it just soup me....David

Frank, I just noticed you had rhymed the middle lines of your message. That was cute. by the way, I see now what this blog is probably in reference to. I don't know what has been said to children on this site concerning their writing. I sometimes tell a poet in a soupmail if they have made some major technical mistake that might lower the quality of a very good poem. I do not see any problem with saying, for example, use "too" in place of "to" in my comment. I hope people are not getting offended by something like that. And I think we should never be harsh in our criticism. I just basically give my emotional "impressions" to poetry. With good friends, I might give other feedback in private.

Funny one, Frank. There is one problem with dictionaries. If one does not know the spelling of a word, how does one look it up? I have had many of my students struggle with this problem. I noticed as I got older, I was forgetting how to spell words I had known since my school days. And a few of those words I had to 'guess" many times before I got the word to show up on google. However, with perseverance, one CAN find the right spelling. I hate to post any poems that are not spelled correctly, but I guess many people simply do not care any more. I think the texting mentality has affected the new generation. I dread the day that we no longer write with pen and paper!

At school here in the younger classes, I used to complain about the fact my kids spelling mistakes were not corrected at school. I was told that spelling was not important as long as they were understandable.*!!!!!*** I couldn't spell what I thought about that but at least I did not say it xx
