Finding Inspiration

Written by: Miranda Lambert

Writing is a gift. Writing allows a person the opportunity to reach out and offer many different types of assistance, to many different types of people. However, one piece of writing is not going to effect every reader the same way, but if you are writing a piece based on inspiration rest assured it will catch some attention. Ah ha, now rises the question what is inspiration, and where can I get some? right?

Well, let me start with what inspiration is. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines 'inspiration' as "1.) a : a divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation b : the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions c : the act of influencing or suggesting opinions  ." In English please...? For example; do you remember when you where a child and your mom or dad was teaching you how to ride a bike with no training wheels? they would get on their bike and let you watch them, then they would ever-so-sweetly tell you " your my big kid, I know you can do it", THATS IT!, They inspired you to learn to ride your bike.

Now my own personal definition of inspiration is: taking things that you believe in with your whole heart, mind, body, and soul, and being able to convert it into something amazing . In my case (and probably many of you who are reading this article) that amazing something is our poems, or short stories.

Look around you people, there are a ga-zillion things out there to use for inspiration. If your having a hard time finding it, it's because your not really looking, it could be your dog, your children, the beach, your mom's laugh. that hot and steamy Bahama vaca. you and your husband/wife took last year, God, Paris, or in my case a lot of my inspiration comes from my recently passed father.

So, the next time you are just doing something as simple as driving to work, I ask that you do me a favor, look out your window. Don't just look to look, look to actually see, and I can guarantee that at least one object that catches your eye can and will inspire you to do or write something great. Let me know if this helps, and if you would like you can share some inspiration you've found!
