Thought I better get round to writing a bit about myself.

I'm married and live on the Isle of Man

My poetry journey began in November 2013 after my husband was diagnosed with cancer. The first poem I wrote was called was Splendid Isolation. This was written after we returned to the Isle of Man after his surgery in England. I felt so alone and vulnerable in the accommodation - all I really needed was someone to talk to face to face and maybe have a hug! I posted a few poems on a friends facebook page - mainly humerous poems . An on-line friend Jenny Brewer saw my poems and kept telling me to join here. It took about 3 weeks of her asking me if i had joined to pluck up the courage to finally post and 'Just Desserts' was the first poem I posted here - it is based on a true experience! Since then my life has been a whirl. In Jared Pickett's collaboration I teamed up with Darren Watson and we wrote together collaboratively as JaDazzle United.

I adore penguins - the animals not the biscuits!
Loveeeee tall men with greying hair
I love baking/cooking
I like to potter in the garden - need more time to commit to it but have an aged mother who needs me more than my garden does
Adore most types of music - will give anything a listen
Best ever gig - Knebworth 1986 when 'Queen' headlined

LAST NIGHT I STOOD ON THIS VERY STAGE AT THE GAIETY THEATRE IN THE ISLE OF MAN AND RECITED TWO OF MY POEMS 'SEVEN MEN YOU DEFINTIELY WOULDN'T WANT TO DATE' AND 'JUST DESSERTS' IT WAS THE MOST INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE AS I'D NEVER STOOD ON A 'PROPER' STAGE BEFORE. THE EVENT WAS TO RAISE MONEY AND AWARENESS OF PARKINSONS DISEASE AND ALZHEIMER'S AND RAISED OVER £6000 ($7400) FOR THE TWO CHARITIES

I WROTE A POEM ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE

SPECIAL THANKS TO MAURICE YVONNE (ARMAND) WHO GAVE ME SOME EXCELLENT TIPS ON HOW TO DEAL WITH STAGE FRIGHT ... THEY WORKED!

I could only see 'shadows' on the front row CayCay the rest of the auditorium was in the dark so I just tried to look straight ahead - was the most incredible moment ... i will never ever forget it!:-) hugs Jan xx

Thanks Kathleen - the theatre was built in 1900 it was beyond my wildest dreams that my husbands cancer surgery would set me off writing and bring me such joy and change my life so so much in so many ways:-) hugs jan xx

I tried one poetry group and it wasn't for me it was far too serious I felt it wasn't for me at all and never went again ... then I heard on the radio about a meeting and I was so so lucky Andrea the people in THAT group are humourists so I fitted in right away.They were doing auditions for the 2nd Pullyman event so I went and did a couple of poems and was accepted for that event and the subsequent one on Friday :-):-) hugs Jan xx

Jan, free verse is all the rage in the poetry society of Utah. I was like a duck out of water attending their group. They made me feel so silly. Anyway, I really should investigate if there are any other groups around here.

(I've always heard you should think of the audience in their underwear!! Is that something what told you to do? We are proud of you~!!

I took part in another show organised by 'Pullyman' that was a sell out with 125 in the audience - this was a step up from their and to have a sell out at the Gaiety was an incredible achievement and we had SUCH fun on the night - it was a comedy night but also with a harpist and Manx Concert Brass. Standing on stage wasn't daunting at all which is odd as I do suffer from a lack of self confidence but this has grown with my poetry. I could only see 'shadows' in the front row the rest of the hall was dark so I just looked straight ahead - all I could see was a 'runway' of little lights which showed where the steps were:-) I can't wait for the next challenge but nothing can top this night!!!:-) hugs jan xx

You are too kind my friend - i was just lucky to be invited to take part - none of us were 'star's just amateurs having incredible fun and making people laugh. It wasn't just poetry but harp music and a brass band and a dobule act who did hilarious songs ... 'there's a hole in my budget' was a political gem!!!! It was filmed Harry but what happens to the footage I have no idea! I had the most incredible time I can't believe how far I have come from writing my first poem on 26/11/2013!:-) hugs Jan xx

My uncle had Parkinson's so I was delighted be able to be able to take part in the event to raise money and awareness of this and Alzheimer's. We had music stand's we could put our poems on but Just Desserts I knew by heart and I just glanced at them for the other poem - it was the most incredible experience I feel so honoured to have been invited to take part in the show:-) hugs Jan xx
