What is the difference between Monoku and American sentence?

Both 17 sylables in one line and monoku is goofy.

Sorry Dave can't help you......still trying to figure out myself what a monoku is, and anything American to me is just weird!

Further research Debbie indicates monostich is from the greek.John Hollander's Book Rhymes Reason quotes this definitive monostich......A ONE LINE POEM. the universe. This shows losts of one liners become in reality a couplet

Technically Dave ,both are monostich variations.My monoku I label as broken monoku, effectively making it into a couplet at the caesura.Interestingly in this digital age there are other one liners ,known apparently as micropoetry.My ten syllable 'tien' form ' (after Tichborne's famous poem of that style) is another monostich as I suppose are some proverbs and maxims.Nothing new under the sun as they say in poetry.Have a good day rgds Brian

Debbie a monostich is any one line poem.The Bible for example has distich (2)and tristich(3) poetry therein (I have posted another of each here in my anthology) .I assume stich must meam single line.

A monoku is a haiku written in a single line. It would still have a season word, have an Aha! moment and be objective. The American sentence only requires objectivity [sensory input] & 17 syllables or less, no season word, no cut to make it 2 parts.
