What is modern Poetry? - Poet. Undertaker's Blog

Poetry has undergone great transformations and in this “era of surveillance” where exploitations, accusations and everything happens under light, poetry needs a new definition.The truth is nature is spoiled badly and the individuals are no peaceful. Inner fights and external wars are in abundance. In such a world modern poetry needs a new definition.
In my presumption the modern poet could be one who strikes the right balance to benefit him, society and the poetry community. As the society runs for money, we do have to change and adopt all ways to entertain and keep the crowd following or else poets will be ostracized and branded as insensitive.
Not necessarily nature, love, romance, values ,virtues, truth and reality but also awareness, good causes, whistle blowing should be considered by way of new genres or the old ones to make people happy and aware.
I believe in Poetry Soup we have a variety of poets specialized in specific genres and also some capable to perform in all forms. Ultimately Soupers are a different kind who is for the welfare of the poetic community. Even though conflict of interest arises it is being sorted out amicably.

Hey the pony can RUN, it can mate, it can bring joy, it can perceive love! SO I was limiting my perception and all of the people who THINK they only can do one thing WELL are limiting theirs. Debbie Guzzi Date: 11/1/2013 6:58:00 AM Poetry IS life, life is poetry, the world only seems to change, it is not the world which actually changes but our interpretation of what's happening as it relates to us. If we see life on planet earth [the world, our world] as part of a larger organism we view the planet with its life forms .. one way, if we see the earth as 'special' 'different out side the natural order' we 'see' it another way. As a poet you must 'see' as much as you can, 'feel' as much as you can 'show' as much as you can. A good poet is not a 1 trick pony ;) Login to Reply Poet. I think it's ok to be good or great in a specific field and doesn't make me any less of a good poet just because I am a rhymer, any less than a heart surgeon is less of a doctor because he specializes in the heart and not the kidneys ;) Just That Archaic Poet Date: 11/1/2013 11:07:00 AM I can't say I agree with you, Debbie. I would probably be considered a "1 trick pony" since I primarily only write in rhyme, but I focus on it because I believe I do it well and have little interest in writing "haikus" and styles like it.

I often have to resort to humor or parody because it is just not my talent to write that way. I don't write pieces that are "socially conscious"; if I do, it's purely coincidental or accidental. Maybe it's because I am too concerned with my own feelings and emotions. Who knows.
