Writer's Lament

I make an effort to write, because I like to write, I don't pretend that all I write is good, or better than someone else's efforts....it's just what I do.

Writing to me is like playing baseball...as a kid, I was the smallest kid on the block amongst much older and better players.  We played sand lot ball - that was before the advent of T-ball and the like.  I was not very good, but I learned that a person could never hit the ball, unless they took a turn at bat.  So, I stood at the plate and swung at the ball.  Most times I struck out, on occasion I hit foul balls, once in a while I hit a grounder to some infielder...but, once, just once, the pitch came in and I got a hold of it, and that ball took off, climbing higher and higher way over the infield and into the outfield, all the way over the outfielder's reach.....a real, honest to goodness...homerun..

Funny thing, I find writing to be the same way....

Things I write may be just like that baseball....but, one time, some time....I know that if I keep it up...long enough...I'm going to get ahold of one...a write that's really good...that's every kid's dream....and at 73....I'm still a kid at heart, with a dream.

As far as my writings....if a person doesn't like them....they don't have to read them.

But, this kid is going to keep on writing them.

And, my advice to each of you......do the same....keep writing...keep dreaming...and keep swinging that bat!!
