You know folks I have been a premium member here since 2008, I believe I was on  the site even before that. I cam here to write, to learn and to be able to help  and assist others. Lately I have been feeling like folks simply don't care?  Anyway, blah blah me. I'm trying again to help you with my contest. The last  blog was on Japanese and Korean history, today I will tell you what's happening  NOW [just a few little things LOL]

Today  in Japan marks the End of WWII and it is called The Day of the Dove

People release doves as a symbol of peace at Yasukuni Shrine Thursday on the anniversary of Japan's surrender in World

What a wonderful idea, what a wonderful culture

which has given so much to the literary world

South Korean Pop Star Psy

just trying to make the world a happier place!

Now North Korea is another kettle of fish [nod]

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un inspects the Arirang smartphone.

North Korea, one of the most isolated and censored societies on the planet,  has unveiled what it says is a domestically-produced smartphone.

So IF you want to write your dodoitsu's sijo's and sedokas about a serious topic focus on North Korea or the nuclear waste clean up in Japan.

Anyway [can get rid of the underline grrr] whatcha got to say?

I just tried finding info on day of the dove but there are not enough details for making a poem about it. I like an aspect of Japense culture you might not care so much about. But I am going to explore it because it is appealing to me. Hopefully I can come up with something about it.

I hear you Andie, I always give a lot of leeway, I was very surprised folks did not get the underlying stories in Alice, Dorothy, and Pinnocio all used the archetype of the lost child. Another thing folks could have written about was the difference between reality and fantasy? Or where do lies really get you? OR where is home? I thought I was pretty clear I didn't want a retelling of the story minus the names? BUT I guess not :( and I very seldom ask for rewrite or polish any more IF I don't know the person is capable of so much more.

Debs, I have written on all those topics you just mentioned so I didn't want to think up another way to say the "same o same o". the wooden boy was "fresh" for me and I thank you for the picture to inspire my poem. I had considered using an old poem in your contest, one that would have been the type you wanted but I think you had asked for a new one. After spending 3 hours on my rondeau for you, never took your advice. Hope you get me. I like your current theme and hope to try it!
Date: 8/16/2013 11:01:00 AM
(had to continue in a new box) I respect your right to want me to take things further, but at the same time, I felt I had accomplished what you had said in your rules, with my kind of a "letter of the law" type of mentality. We are all so different here at the Soup. What is acceptable or enjoyable for some of us, is not the same for others, and vice versa. I have learned to roll with the punches here and adapt to the way things are. I have had disappointments and I am sure my contests have disappointed many people when they did not "get" what I wanted from them. All we can do is just do our best and be who we are. Keep up your lovely contests and blogs, Debs. Luv, Andrea

Debs, Thanks for the blogs. I like the idea of this holiday of doves. Regarding your contests, I think that you have different expectations for your contests sometimes than what I or others might perceive, and it disappoints you when they are not met. For example, my puppet poem. I did not say it was a puppet or mention Pinocchio's name in it, so I thought I had fulfilled the contest requirements ok. You told me to go further with it but in my mind, the poem was complete and I did not want to start all over and do a new one for you. It was not the kind of thing enjoyable for me, to take something to a new level the way you would have liked.

Dear Deb........you have been such a help and inspiration to me, and you have had such patience with my many attempts to learn and improve. I hope you know how grateful so many of us are. I may be one who is guilty of not offering more support, with time constraints, I haven't been here as much as I would like to be, but I owe my gratitude to you and many wonderful soupers who have supported and encouraged me. Please don't give up on us.....or think we don't care. I, for one, hope to find more time as summer winds down. And I'll continue to learn from you, if you will continue to share your wealth. :)

Eileen all of my heart & prayers go out to friends in Egypt. I was in Cairo 2 weeks before Arab Spring uprising, I sang Amazing Grace at the top of a minaret in Tulan mosque one of the most spiritual places I have ever been in the world! Egypt was and hopefully still is a place where religious freedom is the GOAL. I know Coptic Christian Churches & their people are getting discriminated against and killed, it’s so awful, yet people don't live up to the ideals of government & government doesn't live up to the ideals of the people. All we can do is continue to try! The God of Abraham runs through Christianity Judaism & Islam we are all one people, fighting siblings.

Syd seeing you are a real teacher unlike me ;) I so appreciate your encouragement, to make a better world we have to share our individual knowledge. and anytime a person LOVE's something they have knowledge of it to share! YOU share with everyone too, we all are glad YOu are back on soup!

DEBBIE!!!! I'm so so sorry you feel this way! :( Debbie, you are a veteran...you are in the KNOW about poetry, rules, and everything that makes poetry what it should be. I appreciate you and your thoughts, your knowledge. I guess maybe sometimes I'm afraid to take the challenge from someone like you for those very reasons! ;) Does that make sense? Like what Craig said...you folks DO what you feel is right to challenge us, and in time..with experience...we'll bite! ;) Lovely blog. Thanks! The world is full of happiness and sadness. Look at Egypt, Debbie. My husband's family are living in fear. One of our churches was torched. :( Then, a car bomb went off here yesterday. We need peace! Love U!

Becca and Craig if only my world was full of friends closer to me in time and space than you too! I am always amazed when I KNOW there are poets in reach and they don't wish to meet? We need to stop being so afraid of each other & meet! I wish we could have a convention!
