while breezing through the works of my favourite poets, I found the inspiration
to host a contest based on the language and spirit of 4 genres of music--- JAZZ, ROCK and ROLL, HARD METAL , COUNTRY... since the contest page limits space to 8,000 counts,
this prompted me to elaborate on the concept by sharing two examples of famous
artists who convey the essence and tonality of mentioned genres...
the challenge is NOT to write lyrics; but to capture the mood of these musical types...
i’m glad to have received entries though we need to go by the rules,sweet guys! ( 2 of them have no names and listings of genre chosen)...
moving on, here are the verses of well-renowned poets... poem 1 may be
classified as COUNTRY, and poem 2 seems HARD METAL to me... can you guess who
they are?

POEM 1
The dome
of the capitol looks to the Potomac river.
Out of haze over the sunset,
Out of a smoke rose gold:
One star shines over the sunset.
Night takes the dome and the river, the sun and the smoke rose gold,
The haze changes from sunset to star.
The pour of a thin silver struggles against the dark.
A star might call: It’s a long way across.
POEM 2 ( excerpts)
Pure? What does it mean?
The tongues of hell
Are dull, dull as the triple
Tongues of dull, fat Cerberus
Who wheezes at the gate. Incapable
Of licking clean
The aguey tendon, the sin, the sin.
The tinder cries.
The indelible smell
Of a snuffed candle!
Love, love, the low smokes roll
From me like Isadora’s scarves, I’m in a fright
One scarf will catch and anchor in the wheel,
Such yellow sullen smokes
Make their own element. They will not rise...
