The black iron rose

Written by: Donald J Bennett

Beauty born of heat and force at the artist’s hand
Heat of the forge greets cold hard steel within its hungry flame
Soon steel will glow; hammer, tong and anvil close at hand

Stroke after stroke the hammers blows ring clear
Petal by petal; leaf by leaf white hot steel gives way
Out of the fury of fire and force; artistic beauty is born this day

Our black iron rose now stands tall, its beauty to behold
This rose will never wilt, this rose will never fade
Only grow more beautiful as it grows old
