Beating the Alarm Clock

Written by: Eileen R. Kelly

To rise in discovery of morning...

Whilst I find my dream still yawning...

Beating the alarm clock to its screech....

The sun testifies, with joy and sorrow...

For this morning, without warning...

We appear to be out of coffee beans...

Presented with stiff upper lip...
and all movement stalled...

As I stare out the window,
at mornings dew...

Not even shadows follow me...

under covers I do dive...

Merciless cold visits my window pane...

and my craving for coffee deepens

As I allow my sleepy mind to wallow...

...The day dream alerts me...

...The fact we're out of coffee...

It will be tea this morning I swallow...
