The fourth month of the year
Doesn’t care about rhymes
While busy waking trees
Ignores almanac times

Teasing crocus with warmth
Green tipped shoots peeking through
Showing yellow and red
Heralds spring’s growth anew

Tulips rising in turn
Bending gently on breeze
Cupping colors lovely
Not expecting more freeze

But, comes April’s mid-month
Frigid air from the North
Blows cruelly Southbound
As daffodils bloom forth

The crocus relinquish
Tulips revert to sleep
The last frost of the year
April’s teasing unique
