Last Day

Written by: Nick Ruff

Yellow thistle flowers
Are browning by the hour,
And lavender is losing fast her light;

The rhododendron rows,
Once glowing pink and gold,
Have given into autumn’s slow decay.

Though butterflies still fly,
And bees still buzz and perch
Upon their faded petals as they fall,

The last September day
Is quickly giving way,
And with her passing spring will be forgot.
