Evening Sojourn

Written by: John Summers

We sat and drank our coffee
on a summer's eve in June,
talking away the hours
until rain clouds hid the moon.

You spoke about the future,
I was buried in the past,
we wound up in the present,
time with you is unsurpassed.

I love our little journeys,
these excursions of the mind,
unsure of where we're going
never knowing what we'll find.

With you there is a closeness
I've never felt before,
a unity of being
and it leaves me wanting more.

Day has turned to darkness,
the cool night settles in,
I'm ready for tomorrow
when it all begins again.
