Drifting Afar

Written by: Joyce Johnson

Drifting afar, he sees not 'round the bend
Living his days as there were more to come.
Blind to the truth, he can't foresee the end.

Recklessly thinking he has time to spend,
Wastes the good days, ensnared by demon rum.
Drifting afar, he sees not 'round the bend.

Day after day in one another blend.
Just one more drink has caused him to succumb.
Blind to the truth, he can't foresee the end.

So many good men can't their habits mend.
The wake-up call won't come in time for some.
Drifting afar, he can't see 'round the bend.

His loved ones beg, he's too good at pretend,
He walks now only to his lover's drum.
Blind to the truth, he can't foresee the end.

His talents gone, he struggles in bedlam
Nor notes the slowing of the pendulum.
Drifting afar, he sees not 'round the bend.
Blind to the truth, he can't foresee the end.
