They Said

They said we are done
Crossing their fingers, they put their lives as a bet on it
They sharpened their tongues
Filled with venom, ready to spit on our face
They said the cord will break
That it was made with cheap thin thread

They said the fire was but for a moment
It needed not the heavy winds, just a blow from the mouth
That even its coals will forever lie cold
Cannot be rekindled, never hold hope
They wrote it upon the tablets of their hearts
And sealed it with evil art

They said our smile will be gone by morning
That all that we were anticipating was a mirage
We were chasing the wind, they said,
That we were trying to look for fish in the desert
Spending all our time in fruitless toiling
That at the end we will hang our heads in shame

They said even the birds were mocking
That they would not even build nests on the path we trod
They said we were on a flight to our demise
Following our dreams and visions long gone in abyss
That is where they fit like a hand in a glove, they said

All that they said is null and void
They were standing on sinking ground
It was all they wished upon their beds
It was all they planned in their heads
Look how far we’ve come
The cord has never been tighter
And days have never been brighter

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.
