Tree of Love

You see me and assume I am inferior to you
You hear where I'm from and wonder how it could be possible for someone like me to be on your level and maybe even better
You see the color of my skin and think I am beneath you
That I will never achieve anything that you possibly could
Because to you I am inferior
To you I am nothing more but less
Because my skin is different from yours
Because I am not where you are from

You see the color of my skin
And then begin to wonder
How it is for me to carry myself the way I do
You hear me speak
And wonder how I am able to articulate myself the way I do; I sound just like you, if not better.

You wonder how it is possible for someone such as myself to be this way
I am not the color of my skin
I am not the land I am from
I am not my tradition nor my ancestors
I am a human being just as you are
I came into this world just as any other
I am not any different from you nor him

I am a human being
An educated woman that looks nothing like you
I am from a land unknown to you
A land in which you consider one country to be the whole continent
My roots are not that of yours
You and I are from two completely different worlds
There are many things about us that make us different starting with the colours of our skin
I am not beneath you
I am not an inferior race
I am a human being from a land unknown to you that doesn't look like you
I have a brain just as you
We may do things differently but I will never be inferior to you

I am not defined by how I look
Where I'm from
My culture
My mother
Her mother
Or her mother before
Nor the men and women who came before us

I am defined by who I am as a person
My education as well as knowledge
And what I bring to the table for society

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.
