The serpent had already coiled on the feast
The hiss of sultry laments thrown in to wail her wisdom
Screeching a requiem for my naiveté
I still choose to give it my all
My only strength, my innocence
I belong to my gods
And sometimes to their fierce absence
I was raised on songs of dirge
Where lullabies go sour and curdled
And yet I survive, untouched,
Out of reach, as Eves play their favorite arena
Apples thrown in on their whims
I shiver in the cold of deception's blanket
Thrown in for my warmth
The same lullabies wailing
But I give all the same,
I choose to give my blood…

The evil that slinks, singing deceptive words is always waiting for us . . . but strong is the spirit that chooses not to bow down but persevere. Your words are strong and inspiring -- filled with precious life and love! 7

"I shiver in the cold of deception's blanket thrown in for my warmth" .. this is a beauty! An excellent poem built on the 'innocent' strength of the writer. You persevere, and notwithstanding the serpent and his deceit, you will survive and succeed. Full marks to you, Bindu! Hugs // paul
