painting inspired me to write this poem.)
Be Free
(Joy Ditching-Lorico)
(Manila, 6 September 2009, 11:00pm)
In God’s little garden, wildflowers grow
Beauty meets the eyes, wind starts to blow
Bushy plants with translucent dots
Serrated leaves amidst yellow spots
Brilliant sun casts rays on the meadow
A winged little creature crawling so low
God watches as it flutters and stalls
Wonders why it tries and still falls
Looking closely God sees why
This dainty beauty seems to cry
For both wings appear quite strong
But there must be something wrong
From a chrysalis the beauty emerges
Already done with life’s rapid changes
Complete metamorphosis has come
The world outside beckons a welcome
But winged creature is still trapped
In a cocooned life that was mapped
Fears and doubts fill the heart
Flying high can’t seem to start
So God whispered in the wind to say
Go, my beauty please don’t stay
Trapped in your past day and night
Never fear and go see the light
For I love you so, my dear
Don’t be imprisoned by fear
It is your mind that holds you back
For something that you don’t lack
Winged little creature sighed
For quite some time it cried
With courage wings started flapping
Buoyed by wind butterfly began flying
God watched as His butterfly soar
His dainty little creature no more
He whispered into the air a plea
Go, my child, and BE FREE!
