It's Just A Poem
Just because I wrote it
doesn't mean it's true
Sometimes poems can be dark
When the author is feeling blue
I wrote of perishing in the rain
but that was how I dealt with my pain
I'm still here and so are you
Do you not ever feel blue
Better to purge with words than a knife or gun
Today I see darkness
but perhaps tomorrow I'll smile at the morning sun
Some believe that thoughts are things
so they write only happy thoughts
and only of pretty things
of singing birds and fairy wings
of forest glades and engagement rings
but sometimes we have to face the darker side of life
and like I said better with words
than a gun or knife
No need to call 911
or a suicide hotline
for after I write the darkest poem
I usually feel just fine
I'm sorry if I made you sad
or put you in the dumps
but sometimes you have to purge with words
when taking life's hard lumps
