It was about the hour when he was to arrive
All dressed up and beautiful make up on
She sat by the window
Her hero to smite her with awe again, anytime

The clock ticked and clicked by the second
And with every minute closer to the awaited time
Her heart beat a little faster with excitement
She imagined the pleasure in the moment

Before the mirror, she practised the perfect smile
He was worth her every curve on her lips
She practiced the words that she would share
He was worth her every warmth from her heart

Tic toc the second hand moved
The time drew nigh and her emotions were explosive
Containing was hardly a phrase in her vocabulary
By the window she sat, her beloved to come

The time came and her neck craned to the gate
His strides, she beheld in her mind
A dream yet to dawn in the day
Her eyes on the clock, could it be early?

The next second came and went by
The minute passed and the next
The hour passed and the next
The day passed and the next

The week went by and the next
The month went by and the next
The year went by yet her heart
By the clock, still at the first second

Had her hero set his dawn upon another?
Had she been wrong to behold such a one as her desire?
Had her heart been wrong to stay still as the clock ticked?
Had it been...?
