A Feather

Little thoughts
Like whispers
Roam astray
In my mind
Forgotten memories
Return from the depth
Smile in the face of happiness
Making an arrogant challenge
Sitting on the bus
Going somewhere
I see a feather
Caught in the wind
And I think, I think
That is what I want to be
Roam as a separate entity
So that everyone can see
Who I am, who I might be
I don’t want to be a feather
In somebody else’s wing
Camouflaged
Behind the mask I wear
There lies a thirst to prove
A thirst to learn and a thirst to do
But with disappointment
I accept
That is not what I am allowed to do
Like that feather caught in the wind
Spiraling and fluttering on its way down
That is me
But alas, for now
I’m a feather in somebody else’s wing
Camouflaged, hidden
Can you see me?
