And why are my thoughts thus

And why are my thoughts thus

Was it my family
Or the religion I chose
Did Islam tell me morality
Or do we simply suppose

That we can know in totality
And come to conclude
That being a patriot
And a homegrown brood

Has led us to know
The truth of the matter
A truth well hidden
The concept an actor

Of a foreknown play
A human is an animal
That much is certain
A lonely mammal

Learned to what is taught
Programmed with instinct
Learned to be ought

And why are my thoughts thus

That structure is unneeded
That morality is unseeded
That shores undiscovered
Will be destroyed by the unheeded

That men will die
To save their own
But a human brother
Will go unknown

And why are my thoughts thus
That great men are seen
Are those that spoke and wrote much
But acted with no meaning

That lesser men are seen
For not being seen
And forgotten within history

And why has mortality scared us so
That revile the vastness of time
And marvel at space

Neglect what is next to us
To move forward

And why are my thoughts thus

That chaos is reigning
That words and people
Are fading

That I have no reason to be
That I simply do not do enough
Or think too much

I see
I believe in something Greater than I
But I'll be mocked for it, it's true
I'm a hypocrite in actions

Aren't you too?
