Hidden In The Shadows

Hidden in the shadows of a time long past
Haunted memories and darkness that can't be cast

Those demons that keep wanting to steal my soul
Daily I have to vanquish--to keep me whole

Forgave all that demoralized and made me to feel shame,
Knowing in my heart and mind I never should've held blame

But, to forgive oneself is the hardest to do
Because so many loathing eyes stare at you

Making one to carry the burden of pain and guilt
So hard is the shell that I've been made to built

Many don't understand nor do they seemingly care
Unless it directly affects them-hope they're spared

Years of abuse, degradation, lies and trickery
Just a part of the whole that created this me

Again Mary you seem to be in my mind; to have lived my life; walked in my shoes... Your words echo my thoughts. I'm sorry for your pain; you are not alone... Love Lay

Mary, I sure hope you can forgive yourself. I bet anything there is nothing really to forgive yourself of .Some people just are more "feeling." I have never had very strongly those kinds of feelings. I tend to get over things very quickly, so I count myself very lucky and I think this poem will really strike a chord in people like yourself who have had to suffer thru some miserable things. Good luck if this is for the contest. A very feeling poem. LUv, Andrea
