I am an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation. I am 62. I really do not know where I am from. My father was an officer in the Air Force, so my family was stationed at bases all over the U.S including Europe (France and Germany).
I have lived in Tucson, Arizona since I was 7 years old. I graduated from the University of Arizona with a major in Inter-Disciplinary Studies: Literature, Sociology, and Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Counseling & Guidance. I have worked in the American Indian community for 18 years—both reservation and urban. Was given leadership of several American Indian agencies and programs. Had many experiences of the personal challenge of being American Indian in a dominant non-Indian culture. For many years, I have been telling stories from those American Indian experiences. Recently, dawned on me that I was a story teller in the American Indian oral tradition, and now it was time to put my stories in writing. In poetry, my atypical poetic structure—is greatly influenced by e.e. cummings. Poetry, for me, is a spiritual process of clarifying my experiences and challenges on my spiritual journey. I am also an impressionistic painter. I currently have a gallery of images of my paintings on Red Bubble. Thank you for taking the time to read about me.
