Life is What You Make It

Born to see it, in the midst of a beautiful change
Tis a faux pas in American history
A blob of dark ink on an exquisite painting
There is no mystery
A time with blood and fears reigning

This disparity caused a Civil War
When avarice possessed no humanity
Some realizing the aberration must be no more
A great President chose to erase this wretched vanity

Human beings, toiled in chains
Families ripped apart to not a care
Freedom seekers violated, enduring intense pain
Yet these new American's clung to hope and prayer.

Many lives were lost- at great cost
This exquisite painting began again
The idea of slavery tossed
The artist painted over this shame
Erased but not forgotten- triumph not lost.

Shall go to the grave- DIEING
and knowing. Tis a faux pas in American history
A blob of dark ink on an exquisite painting
There is no mystery
A time with blood and fears reigning
