The sensitive soldier

The sensitive soldier

A boy like him, how could he think?
That a soldier he could be?
He was soft, poetic, sensitive
And yet this lad, did he
Join the army for to fight
To keep his country free
The lad he was adventurous
So he joined up happily.

Then he learned the very hard way
That war is for the strong
There’s no place there for heart and soul
The boy did not belong
All the stuff he saw, it broke him down
And made a mess of him
He had a breakdown, fell apart
His each day felt so grim.

They discharged him, and he became
A kind of nowhere man
He did not fit in anywhere
And now this man called Dan
He lives alone, and writes his stuff
And drinks a lot of beer
Cause what his life is all about
He really is not clear.

Hi Peter, How sad It Is that so many of our young go Into the forces and come out broken. Even the strongest of men can break under what they see and do, a sensitive man doesn't stand a chance really. As always Peter you put your point across In a quiet way. You paint your vision onto the canvas and place It before us all. We see the sadness and reality of the canvas. This could well have been my story Peter. I wanted to be a soldier when I was young. Your Friend always....MIKE.

By the way I was that man, but I retaliated by leaving my family and giving all my worldly goods away. I went through forty years of PTSD. I would not advocate the army to anyone.

Hi Michael, thanks once again for your kind comments. You really do show an interest because you peruse through my whols site, So I know that you really do have are interested in what I write. Most of the people on this site only look at the top couple. and only because you comment on there poems, And even then the favourites always get the most comments, even when their stuff is crap. I have seen some utter rubbish on this site get so many comments. and that puzzles me. It is only you and a few others that keep me on this site. Thank you my friend....Peter

This is a truly fantastic write my friend! This is like a friend of mine who went to the Vietnam war, who ended up with some PTSD so bad it impaired him to the point of disability! He can't hold a job or anything right now,and probably never will! I surely enjoyed reading this amazing poem here this evening! What a grandiose piece, Great Work!!

Thank you Russel. The same thing happened to me, I reached full recovery by getting in touch with John Sherman on the net and doing the simple act that he he gave me to do. I went from the most miserable person to the happy person who writes this comment now. Speak to your friend about him, he may be able to help him. I appreciate you warm comments, my friend...Peter

So sad Peter. Man was not created to see such evil. I can't imagine such pain, such horror. I too would be sitting with Dan, but for the Grace of God. I pray for all these men and woman that God would but only touch. Thank you Peter.

To quote the beginning of Edwin Starr's song WAR. . . "War! Huh! What is it good for? Huh. Absolutely nothing."
