I only want to be me

If I am I, who is me?
I wish to understand,
but I can't see.
You're willing to talk to me,
But you never talk to I.
I am so confused,
when you tell me to try!
If it's not about me,
than is it about I?
I am so frustrated, that it makes me want to cry.
Please will you tell me?
I want you to try.

I have responsibilities,
still it's always up to me.
I think and I think,
I beg you please, explain it to me.

Will I ever be, the one who's able to fly?
You can take me somewhere,
I don't think you can take I.

I like spending time with you,
I am pleased you like me.
I love it even more,
when it's just you and me

You say that you know me,
Still I am so much more.
I have the answers,
Yet it's me you're looking for.

If only you'd take the time,
I know you would see me,
If I could explain
Perhaps I would be free

If you let me,
I will show you so much more.
I am the one knocking,
It's me outside your door.

For I am I,
still somehow I am me.
I can be anyone,
Yet there is only one me.

Wow Richard! Nice! Very nice! Me and I - Just think about it like a fruit - the outer peel and the inner fleshy part - the 'me' part is the peel, what others often see. The 'I' part is the fleshy part, the one only few bother to see. The peel and the fleshy part are still you 'me' but while they are different they still make up the whole you. It takes thoughtful people to see the inner you but that doesn't change who you are - a great man.

Aww what a touching comment, you have made me happy and I am thankful. You are seriously one of the poets I admire most because you peel back your own layers and let us see your unvarnished self. From where I sit you are truly beautiful and filled with an uncommon light.

This piece reminded me of a few I have written about duality and the dichotomies that make up the human condition. I loved the questioning of "self". Very reflective and introspective. Great poem, Richard; enjoyed it very much :)

Powerful! Your voice can be versatile as it chooses. But, the heart knows its roots. Tremendous.

This is very nice. I was hoping you were going to make it into a grammar poem!! The difference between when we use me or I!! But it ended up being a lovely love poem instead.

Below in Eileen's I made a refference to your comment regarding Dr. Seuss but for some reason it kept popping down to her. Oddly the there only can be one comment was meant for her and it posted on yours.
