The Delayed Flight Home

Upon revelation’s flight
Under Orion’s focus

I witness a fiery glow towards familiar horizons.

‘Tis no sunrise

It is a striking reality.

My saddened retinas witness monochromatic pitchforks,
Desolated screams,
Embellished declarations from misguided leaders
And self-made stallions riding into condescending sunsets
Without any earned punctuation to be taken seriously

A House of Eroded Representatives

A village of One
A village of souls
Pushing
Back

…

There was a home upon these well-worn landing strips.

This was my home.

But, these forged rooftops now taste
Withering, hurricane gusts of red velvet cake’s mold

Rusted nails forcibly detached from honored foundations
Unto egotistical coffins

The reality
Shining through meter-less corruptions
Comes full circle

Small doses of poisonous vendettas
Fed from tarnished, silver spoons

Echoes of Cuban Fidel
Lace elasticity of “open arms”
With onyx, unfiltered coffee drops
Coating infant’s petulant lip

Witnessing cotton-less sheep walking with listless fervor
Towards silenced, condemned “Noahs”

I signal pilot within my melancholic wisdoms
To redirect our flight
To a new horizon

To an unsheltered domain
Where even waterfalls still allow
Conducive verbiage to rise
Amongst the unabashedly meek

To a destination
Where stature is defined by all
Not by one

Where character
Is developed under accountabilities’ pen

Where high horses & curtained theatrics
Are the only victims of banned tomorrows

Where honor
Is still defined
Without deleted, impulsive banter

Where friendship,
Love,
Wisdom,
Memories,
Shine

…

Because
Things

Things are no longer the same
Things are no longer the same

Things are no longer the same.

Yeah, they aren't. It's obvious based on what we're still witnessing today...pitiful. Thank you so much, Lucilla. :)

Okay...now you went and did it! How can I choose a favorite line? When so many blow me away? I see metaphors for all injustice we endure....segue to all the beauty we hope for! Truly a work of art! Drake!....okay..."where high horses and curtained theatrics are the only victims of banned tomorrows" wheww!!!! Heavy perfection! Jimbo

I find it difficult to be one to rate a poem such as this- I am not well-versed in the type of work you interpret/write, as Shakespearean poetry is not my fav, I would like to see simple, yet direct, filled-with-color type poetry from your pen. (Not that I won't continue to read your work---interesting for lack of a better word.

Hey there, Wendy! You're here, thank you. :) I'm an odd person, truth be told. When I speak without poetry, I'm very direct. But, with poetry, I don't want to be so obvious. I like making the reader think about what I'm saying. It trips readers, at times. I understand what you mean. But, you still came here & left some very respected comments. I value that. Perhaps, I can surprise you one day.

I love how you added those lyrics from Metallica at the end. I am reflecting a lot in this fantastic piece. I love your source of inspiration and where your mind takes you with these words. I admire the ostensible spontaneity of your work, yet it clicks and weaves together very effectively. Another great one. Always, Laura

I believe the lyrics were a necessary addition to the overall message of this writing. The song truly is a life symbol to how I do things in my daily life, how I treat others, and how I should be treated. You rock, Laura. I discovered that fact on Google in the search results. ;-)

Ah, man...I fear I'm too weary eyed to give this a proper comment...however, it was just the shot of brilliance I needed this morning. And a Metallica quote to top it off! -BROFIST-

An awesome piece Drake! We all like things to be predictable don't we? We expect things to keep on just the way they always have. But maybe it's just a trick we play on ourselves, our way of making life seem ordinary. Truth is, life is so extraordinary we find ourselves sighing just to take it all in. Nothing is ever certain or remains the same. But most of us don't find out until the ground disappears from beneath our feet. We are a compilation of all we have ever lived. That remains my friend.

Well, for me personally, I don't like predictability. But, there are some things in life I do expect to just go right. Especially with the people one comes across during certain stages of life. Well said & thank you so much, Sarai.

a fitting song quote to go with it. This exudes feeling, Drake!! We just can't ever go back! also this seems very political to me. Well, I guess because I am feeling lost in my own country!

Hi, Andrea. Yes, for sure. Political is just the tip of the whole message here. But, you are on the right track nonetheless. Thank you so much for stopping by! :)

As usual, your words weave a tapestry that makes the readers stand in awe like patrons at an art gallery, with everyone experiencing something different in the images. When we take the trip and go home again, we find it is never quite like we remembered. We have changed and don't quite fit into our slots anymore. Somewhere along the trip back to our present we realize that home is truly inside in our hearts and our memories, and we take it with us wherever we go.

There you go again bending my mind, Fortunately my mind is somewhat elastic. I find depending on my mood I always get something different from your work. I don't think ties are ever truly cut clean.

Going back to former familiar places is a rather sad endeavour because we know we can never truly return because we are not the same person who was previously there. It is almost like viewing old photographs and wondering how we were ever so innocent.

drake!.. happy new year!.. the wailing reality of a home gone cuts like a knife.. how beautifully sullen to find a place of comfort turning into something beaten by sordid elements.. great symbolisms of a return to ' nowhere' .. love mettalica---deep, angry, soulful like the core of your piece..hope you are good! !.. huggs

Well written as always, sad though...the line which struck me most - an unsheltered domain where waterfalls allow conducive verbiage to rise among the unabashedly meek - says a lot to me... And those lines by Metallica are mind-blowing, aren't they? your life-long song? indeed, your poems sing that about you:)

Yes, I live by those lines as much as I possibly can. That said it is sad, as a whole. But, we as poets have a responsibility to do the right thing and treat others properly...or else those who remain true will move on and demand the respect & courtesy they deserve. Thank you so much, Bindu! =D

The thing I find most intriguing about this piece is not within the poem itself (but the poem is totally awesome), but rather the ending quote...I love Metallica, I know that might be a surprise but I do, and I remember this line within the song, so very relevant to life too!! Your poem here is perfect in every dimension that it reveals itself within! I really enjoyed reading this powerful write here my friend, so very awesome! What a brilliant piece, Great Work!!
