The Twilight of memory

Unable to even gather his thoughts
Time had stolen those memories he held dear
Though he seeks them, in vain they are sought
      Everything has become blurred, unclear
As images of twilight draw near

Suddenly a smile lights up his face
As an image flashes through his mind
It is this fleeting image he tries to embrace
Before it slips away and is confined
 To shades of twilight, undefined
                            ---

This is so sad, and unfortunately very real....so many lose this precious gift of memory, and it is too fragile and precious to lose...what an emotional piece you have penned. Congratulations!

Great poem Joseph, penned so well. At seventy one I often find my memory is getting worse, but I take all of it as it comes and see what tomorrow brings, all part of aging, Can't stay young forever. Loved this poem, my friend....peter

It's always despairing to have one's memory slip... mine tends to at times as I age... watched my grandparents and parents go through this also in their later years. You have gave voice to these occurrences and showed also the joy of remembrances that are so fleeting in the winter of years. Well done !.
