The Ladder

I
Had
Once
Wrote
That I
Climbed
A ladder.
With each
Step up, the
Rungs turned
Into tree limbs
Made for squirrels.
My sprightly arms
And legs transformed
Into wrought iron wings.
I perched to take to the air
Like the glorious albatross,
But the weight tugged and
Thwarted a new freedom
From the physical world.
I’m only a nonfictional
Descendant from man,
Descending a ladder
One actual rung at
A time. With no
Help, alas from
A premature
Fantasy that
Will make
Me want
To keep
Going
Up.

Hi David, life always presents us with many uphill climbs, and yes, we must continue upward, Nice structure very fitting for the title. Blessings, Carl

Very interesting poem, but the shape???? ummmmmmm....Is it just me or is that really what I see? CURIOUS!!! Great job. Love the mention of albatross. Beautiful

Thanks for your comments. I agree on the shape issue, but I picked it out of default. A Ninette would be perfect, but only nine lines. I wonder if there is a form out there with increasing/decreasing lines?
