...Did you just banish a poet as though he had posted pornography or a sadistic rant
when, in fact, all he did was voice an opinion which opposed your own?
You have gathered a group of creative minds, a group who by their very nature are free-thinkers, and therefore you should expect that disagreements will occur.
A poet who does not kick up the dust now and again, lead by his chin, stand up on principle and write from both gut and heart is not a poet I would want to know.
You have stated that this site is not a democracy. Then what is it? Imperialism?
Chris Aechtner is a poet?s poet. His work is crystalline, yet never simple. He and I once discussed raw poetry and I could never mimic what he can do with free verse. He once said to me that I shoot from the hip and he and I are the same that way. Always speaking from a place of personal conviction, even if those convictions jar with the general populace. Unable to silence that throb in the heart that says SPEAK YOUR TRUTH.
Have Chris and I ever disagreed about anything? LOL. Oh, yeah. Big time. But I respect this man for who he is and his principles. He is, above all else, a man of high ideals. I can hear him barking now. I am basically calling him the idealist that he once called me. But what is principle other than an ideal, eh, my friend?
I doubt the man will come back even if the administration groveled, offered him membership and promised him the key to Soup City...
But if we , his friends, the soup community asked the powers that be to rethink their knee-jerk decision, and if Chris heard dozens of voices calling out, come home, come home, come home...
Then perhaps, just perhaps, our man of principle, our very own Peter Pan, will fly back, write us some Vomitus, wish us all a merry Chris Chris.. Christmas and continue to keep the Soup warm and just a tad zesty.
Love to all Soupers
