Soaked in Sadness

I went to my tub
Turned on the tap
Watched as my sadness
Filled it to the top
The worries of many days
In the water crystal clear displayed
Deep beneath the surface layed
Summoning
Please come in

I strip down
To my essence
The discarded garments
In a pile on the floor
The yesterday man
I don't need anymore

I climb in
Sink into the sadness
Allow it to caress
Warm
Somehow comfort
As it washes over me
Invigorating my complacency
Calming
Saving
Staving off
Insanity

Layers of yesterday's regrets
The calls of unpaid debts
The reasons I choose to be upset
All caught in liquid suspension
Relieving my built up tension

Once I am fully cleansed
I can begin again
Pulling the plug
Watching it all go down the drain
Extricating
Relieving the pain

I lift myself
Dripping on the floor
Done with the sadness
Not needed anymore
I step over the clothes
Left on the floor
Leaving them behind
Walking out that door
Ready and willing
To face the world again
A brighter
Cleaner
Version I see
An empty tub
A happier
Me

Inspired by Eileen Ghali's poem
"Maddening Rain"

Please do not worry about me I am
not in a dark place just a poetic expression.

Such a creative and eloquent way you have of speaking. I could never have my fill of your words. I love the idea of washing away the sadness. I have always imagined that rain is God's way of bathing his children, like any loving parent bathes little ones. (except it would take a pretty big bathtub to get everyone in!)

If we know Jesus we will be clothed in white and be declared innocent. Halliluia!

:) What an amazing poem, RIchard. It's been a while since my writing has inspired.....I'm glad. So glad because this is simply beautiful beyond description. So deep, meaningful. One way to understand pain....Yes....afterwards....when understanding has come, cleansing is complete.....it can all go down the drain. Thank you....There is an F missing (myself) in first line of last stanza...Going to my favorites. I need a bath! ;)
