My mother taught me to read when I was four
(This was her first mistake)
One day, I was in the bathroom and noticed
the cabinet door ajar. I found a box it read
“Kotex Napkins” I asked my mother
why she kept the napkins in the bathroom.
Didn't they belong in the kitchen?
Skirting the truth, she said, they are for "special occasions”
(her second mistake).
It is now, Thanksgiving Day
My folks are going to pick up family for diner.
While they are gone, my duty was to set the table.
On their return, they looked at the table & burst into
laughter. They giggled and gasped. Mom came into the
room, with an embarrassed look on her face.
She saw a setting on the table with a "special occasion Kotex"
on each plate, followed by a fork and knife.
I even tucked the little tail in so it didn't hang off the edge!
My mother asked me why I used these,
my response sent the other adults into further fits
“But, Mom, you said they were for special occasions!"
“Life is too short for petty things, kiss slowly,
laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly.
For heaven's sake, use the good napkins.
