Ma's New Thanksgiving

Ma’s New Thanksgiving

tom bell for dinner?
dinner bell for tom bell?
tom bell’s our dear prize turkey

been with us for years
strutting round and round the yard
almost one of us

pa sharpens the axe
but tom bell’s smarter than hell
hides behind the barn

and pa then gives chase
but tom bell’s faster than hell,
pa older than hell

yep! pa gives it up
but none of us can stand ham
chicken? don’t seem right

beef for thanksgiving?
hey! no way, jose, no way!
ma has a new plan

calls it turkasoy
it’s brown and tastes not too bad
we’ll make a fortune!

Gobble gobble, I'm alright with soy.:) When we'd lived out west we'd had two turkeys...Harold and Homer. Harold had been the male, and a great watch turkey. One day I'd caught him, tried to yank out the black binder twine out of his chest. They used to peck at and eat everything. I'd been so worried until the neighbour had said that it was normal; he'd grown 'hair' on his chest.:( At least Tom Bell had been able to hold onto his integrity. Harold had hated me. Love you, Mikki

Interesting work..A pet is a pet is a pet be it turkey or pig..My mother used to just get a large hen and boil it so she would have broth to make the dressing..Times have changed..Enjoyed reading your work..Thanks for stopping by..If I were to go to the deserted, I would be happy to include you on the journey..Sara
