Australia

From the snow atop the ranges,
to the surf along the coast.
From 'Brissy' down to Melbourne.
I love this land the most.

I love the top end desert
with all its scrub and dunes.
Even a town called Alice and
a rock called Uluru.

The mighty Murray River,
that winds down to the bite.
A little town called Ballarat,
although it's cold at night.

From the tiny Little Desert,
down to the coast at Lorne.
I love this lucky country,
the land in which I's born.

From way up north to way down south
and yes even Hobart too.
Although I have never been there
a place called Kakadu.

I love this mighty nation
and everything it holds.
Every speck of dirt
between the coasts,
I'll love 'til I grow old.

Thom This is such a great ode to your home. The imagery and creativity allows the reader to see every place you are writing about. Nice job

Hobart, in Tasmania (I love geography and cartography). Would love to visit your country one day; came close when I lived in New Zealand for awhile. What I'd give for a meat pie, Lift soda and Wattie's tomato sauce (and lest I forget the fish 'n chips!). I miss Wattie's so much; I've looked into importing it, but LORD it is ever expensive! Great poem, Tom; you make me yearn for the Kiwis! :)

This certainly pulled at my heart strings, Thomas (you can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl)! A great piece, and a great show of love for country - thank you :)

Amazing poem! I have never been to Australia, but I am sure it is breathtaking. I can really relate to the last verse, it sounds like where I live. I am from Wisconsin, in the United States...Thank you for all of the kind comments on my work. They really mean so much to me! :)

thanks Wayne, I was inspired in part by my own travels in Australia (I have been lucky enough to see a lot of it.) as well as the pride I have for my country. Thanks mate.

Although I wrote this about my country, It can relate to wherever we are in this world. We all those places that make your home special to you. The dusty small towns of the American mid west, the trout stream of England and lush rolling hills of Wales or Ireland. Although these places mean every thing to me and my pride in my country. If you read it as your own I hope you feel it for yours.

it doesn't matter where we live so long as we're able to share . I am so lucky to be here in Australia, where freedom of all things gives strength to take the rough with smooth and keep going.
