Trapped

I was always that kid who was in everybody else's way.
A waste of space, just another mouth to feed.
The one who was told I could never do anything right.
And, I was blamed for everything that was wrong.
The one who was told I would never amount to anything in life.
That I was good for nothing.
I was trapped.

Imprisoned in my own world like a goldfish in a bowl.
Swimming endlessly in circles, and no where to go.
Knowing that there was more out there than this.
But, no access to it.
I was trapped.

Caught in a glass jar like a summer firefly.
With no hope of release.
Forced to let my green glow fade out, like all of my dreams.
All the while, screaming as loud as I could, yet hearing nothing.
I was trapped.

Then, one day, years later, I found my release.
Poetry.
I had never known such freedom.
I was now able to escape, and go wherever my pen could take me.
But, more recently I found myself trapped once again, within this freedom.
Which, I am desperately trying to break free of now.

It is as easy as saying, 'I am not trapped, I am free to come and go..do and write as I please.' Congratulations on your win in Drake's contest. love and hugs, Catie :)

Embrace the freedom and don't let people's negativity influence who you are. You come across as having a heart of gold and sometimes we say more when we write then we ever could. Awesome piece and congratulations on your win Kelly ;)

Congrats on your placement in my "Know your Place" contest. The vibe in this piece reeked of tension, enslaved structure & want. I enjoyed how you took the "freedom" of poetry and turned it into a "deterrent" from that same freedom. What a paradox. Nicely done!

We all find ourselves trapped everynow and then but in your case it seems you encountered some mean events in your life.Be happy with who you are.Never believe lies which makes you feel like a failure..nor approve of them.Believe in yourself..you have a great ability in writing and i could see from your comments how compassionate you are..Let your words flow.We are trapped as long as we won t to be.Open the door..flutter your wings and fly..hugs

Kelly that was nicely written, the trap is our ever busy minds. Turn the thoughts down, and the light comes. I am glad you decided to write...Peter

This poem was about my real life experiences, and it was sort of inspired by a line from Alfred Hitchcock's film, "Psycho"...And, if I may quote Norman Bates: "We're all in our private traps, clamped in them, and none of us can ever get out."....That line really spoke to me personally. Not that I am crazy or anything!
