Lurking

Dementia genes may lurk inside
But since there is no cure,
I wonder what’s the benefit
Of finding out for sure.

Would knowing change the way you live
And spur some foreign travel?
Or would it plunge you to the depths
Where fear makes minds unravel?

Perhaps you’d contact long-lost friends
To help provide support;
Or take up brand-new hobbies
So that pesky plaque you’d thwart.

Quite possibly, you’d join a club
For Alzheimer potentials;
Or start a journal or a blog
Confirming your credentials.

If something’s hiding in my brain
Prepared to drag me low,
My overwhelming wish for now
Is I don’t want to know.

    I wouldn't want to know either. My sister is already worried about me because I'm so forgetful. I just keep telling her "on the bright side I'll get to make new friends every day".

    Great write Ilene, I find myself; forgetting so much at seventy years old, but I do what me dear old mum did, I laugh at it, and tell it to do it's worst, there are some memories I would dearly like to forget lol Peter

    With God's grace, the day we face will be our only challenge. Then we'll know if it will show, but never need avenge. Peace. :)

    What a quandary. To know or not to know. I think I'd like to know what was causing my memory problems, but then again, I'd eventually forget what they told me. Nice write on a scary subject. Love, Kim
