No Penny or a Thought

It seems our thoughts are worthless
There are such few pennies for our thoughts
We use to have an abundance
Now like pennies we don't have a lot

So many of our minds are empty
That really is a shame
We rely so much on google
We fail to use our brain

What in the world would happen
If our technology was lost
If in a moment it vanished
Could we afford the cost

All our libraries sit empty
Few people know what to do
They have never picked up a book
It's a thought that should make us blue

It's never too late to get started
We can put some time aside
Memorize some basic facts
Expand our minds from deep inside

Thinking to some time in the future when we rely almost
solely on our technology. If we run out of energy, and books
are a thing of the past, where will we be? The beginning
reference to the penny is because in Canada we are
eliminating the penny.

BINGO!!! I've actually had this discussion with some of my Generation "ME" Soldiers. These guys wouldn't know what to do without their iPhones, the books that read to you. Don't get me wrong, technology is nice, but when you stop using your brain, something is wrong. I mean since cell phones, how many phone numbers do people still remember??? Anyway great poem Buddy -you been busier here I see... MC

Your use of metaphor is fantastic in this one. The perspective couldn't be more clear.. So many are penniless without the enrichment derived from education and books. This poem says so much !

Sad but so true! I see cashiers at stores all the time who can't make change unless the register tells them what to do. My grandchildren go to a small rural school They teach them how to deal with technology but make the children do most things the old fashioned way with leg work, researching in the library and digging out facts from the encyclopedias. I think it is wonderful

you speak much truth in this piece, I guess so much for the saying "a penny for your thoughts" I see us as almost there now, my boyfriends daughter couldn't do simple math at the table and yet he said and she aced math, it was her best subject and her reply was, well we use calculators in school....so sad that technology has taken place of thinking....Good Write! :)

It is really sad, I have a family member who can't tell the time on a regular clock with hands. She owns a digital watch.

Technology threatens to be the downfall of humanity. A great hint of this, for example: Kindle & Nook devices. What happens when the battery dies? When the screen breaks? When the internet is gone and you can't download more books? Books require no such dependencies. But, the scream of humanity will be so abhorrently loud that they won't hear the solution in front of them. Lethargy will become the only Table of Contents. Thank you for this.

This is excellent and so very true. Thankfully my boys like to read books, but they still would be lost without the computer. Reading Donna's comment, it's true about cursive writing being dropped, my boys print and type only....it's sad.

A very clever post..I do wonder what my baby girl's life s gonna be like.I remember..I loved playing outdoors and indoor games. We even did stuff like home made kites and flower girlands..Lots of sports too and many library visits. Its a pity if it comes to an end.I do buy bpoklets for my baby girl even though she s only one..O wish she could love books the way i do.This new monster of technology is great in many ways but its making us lazy and killing our minds and simple joy.Excellent!!
