The Fisherman's Wife

The surf pounds against cliff
I beat my pillow moaning
you are gone, your heart of stone
not swayed by my tears

onoko*-san the bringer
who has seeded my garden
return like the sea otter
through the waves to me

The conch shell echoes your name
you are spirit born, deck lifted
I have burnt incense for you
do not haunt my shoals

* Three Dodoitsu's which tell the tale of LOVE meant to be sung.
onoko is the Ainu word for man comprised of 3 syllables
“o”, “no” and “ko” which refer to male and female sexual organs.

    WHOA... AWESOME--PLEASE XCUSE CAPS. LONG STORY.. I READ 9 OF YOUR WONDERFUL WORKS OF THOUGHT. YET, I CAME BK TO THIS BEAUTY. IT STILL AMAZES ME IN A WORLD OF BILLIONS X EACH INDIVIDUAL WITH A MEGA DICTIONARY OF THOUGHT AND WORDS , THAT A LONE SOLITARY INDIVIDUAL CAN PUT TOGETHER STRINGS OF BEAUTIFUL EXPRESSIVE WORDS THAT TOUCH THE SOUL. & CREATE THOUGHT THAT CHANGES EACH TIME THE WORDS ARE READ. PS: THANK YOU FOR COMMENTING ON MY WORKS ROCK SCARFONE GOLDSMITHWORKS...

    I like this Dodoitsu. As I recall, this form can be extended to read like a long poem. I saw many versions where they were not even divided into stanzas, but I think it doesn't matter. Great example!
